Pay for a beer with a jog. London has just opened its first place for runners and sportsmen (but also for those who are not), not by chance called The Runaway, where you can settle the bill with the miles covered. No money, but a nice quick walk in the open air in exchange for a pint.
Located on Charing Cross Road, this sui generis pub has just opened its doors thanks to the collaboration of a well-known brand of running shoes, New Balance, at a time when the British are intent on preparing for the famous London Marathon, scheduled for 28 April next.
How The Runaway works
The kilometers run are accumulated through the app Strava, connected to a digital credit card that will keep track of the kilometers and convert them into glasses of beer: for example, with 32 km, for example, you get 2 beers for free, with 64 km instead of 3.
“We are excited to open our first pub and look forward to welcoming runners to the bar to swap miles for pints.
– explains Samantha Matthews, senior marketing manager at New Balance UK & Ireland.
The Runaway pub brings our Everybody’s Race to life and aims to empower runners during the training weeks by offering an escape and reward when needed and a reference point for the running community to get together and support each other.”
Everybody’s Race is nothing more than a program to support the marathon runners during the training sessions with which they propose to the community of runners four new challenges to promote the physical and mental defaticamento (the cool-down). All athletes and amateurs can take part in the races and accumulate points on their card to spend at The Runway.
Along with the traditional bar, the location also houses a gym and a weight area dedicated to all those who want to do some extra training before a couple of drinks. Nice idea, don’t you think?
